After a diagnosis of cataracts and discovering that the private route offered options not available to me on the NHS I went to see Mr Naylor at the Spire. With a very high prescription, astigmatism and the discovery of a historic retinal detachment I kept my personal expectations of success at a lower level. I was advised by several opticians along the way to go for full distance vision in both eyes even though I had been successfully using mono-vision with contact lenses for many years. Mr Naylor was confident that mono-vision was right for me so I trusted his judgment and went ahead. His choice of lens prescription was spot on and the result is amazing. My distance vision is much better than it was before and I can read most things at close range including newspapers, phone screens etc without the need for reading glasses. Surgery to the eyes is daunting for anyone but I was kept informed and felt cared for throughout the whole process by the friendly staff, nurses and the operating team. Mr Naylor is very professional , personable and I would certainly recommend him to others.

Having been diagnosed with cataracts at a young age, I had a number of concerns and a lot of questions. I felt it vital to talk with a surgeon who was not only highly experienced and knowledgeable in lens replacement, but who would also carefully listen to my concerns and give me the very best advice in terms of lens choice considering my lifestyle and work demands. I first met Mr Naylor at a NHS appointment and was immediately impressed with his attention to detail, careful explanations and for listening to my many questions. My choice of lens meant that I had to seek private treatment so I was delighted to discover that Mr Naylor practises at The Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital. On the days of both surgeries, Mr Naylor and his team made every effort to ensure that I was fully informed about every step of the procedure whilst also ensuring I remained comfortable. I am just past 6 months after both operations and am delighted with the results. The lens choice prescribed by My Naylor is excellent, I no longer need glasses for driving and also for my work which involves extensive computer use. Follow up eye tests have been thorough and confirm that I now have excellent vision. Mr Naylor has been great in terms of making himself available by phone or email if I ever have any questions.

I couldn't be more grateful for the expertise of Mr Naylor and the support of his team. After a blow to the head, my intraocular lens I had implanted in 2012 had moved from its original position causing very blurred vision. From the initial consultation with Mr Naylor, he talked me through the process and put me at ease from the start. He recommended surgery based on the position of the lens and potential long terms issues which he talked me through. The day of the surgery he talked me through the procedure, the risks and what would happen if he couldn't manage to re position the lens. Again, all this time he came across very confident in what he had planned, which calmed me down. He made this such an easy process to go through. Couldn't recommend Mr Naylor more based on my experience. Thanks again!

I would like to thank Mr Naylor, he is a kind, caring and understanding person. From my first consultation he made me feel at ease. I wasn’t sure what to expect but he explained everything very clearly. I’m delighted with the results and have arranged for Mr Naylor to carry out the same operation on my other eye.

Profile

Born and raised in Hull, I was proud to graduate with honours from Leeds Medical School in 2008 as one of the top performing medical students of my year. I completed my ophthalmology training in Yorkshire where I was amongst the first of my trainee cohort to achieve the coveted CertLRS for refractive surgery, a testament to my ambition and determination to strive to be the best. To further my expertise I undertook a year of advanced sub-specialty training in cornea and refractive surgery at St James's University Teaching Hospital, one of Europe's largest teaching hospitals. My training has afforded me a wealth and depth of experience in precision eye care, and an uncompromising attitude towards the delivery of an outstanding patient experience. I always put my patients first.
I am the NHS consultant lead for cataract surgery at York Teaching Hospital. I also co-run the emergency eye care service. I regularly teach medical students and surgical trainees, I am a trainer on the microsurgical skills course run by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and I am the college tutor for York trainee ophthalmologists.
I specialise in complex cataract surgery and intraocular lens work. I have performed over 4000 cataract operations with visual outcomes surpassing the national standards cited by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. My experience in emergency eye care means I am very skilled in dealing with a wide range of eye problems. Now residing in York my hard work, integrity and professionalism have enabled me to establish a successful private practice working at both the Nuffield Hospital in York and the Spire Hospital in Hull.
I consider myself very fortunate to call the beautiful county of Yorkshire my home and in my spare time regularly enjoy country walks and bike rides with my wife, children and dog.
